Early Learning Assessment

This message contains important updates for Early Learning Assessment Data Managers and Administrators.

Fall 2023 Assessment Window – Data Collection Extension
The Fall ELA assessment window closes on November 14. However, we are extending the KReady system fall data collection until December 1 at 11:59 p.m. to allow additional time for teachers to enter ELA data. After this date, teachers cannot enter ratings into KReady for the fall assessment window and data managers cannot enroll students to the fall data collection. There will not be an additional clean-up window for data managers this year.

Do Not Report Scores or Reason Codes for Missing Scores in EMIS/EAS
As a reminder, programs will not report fall or spring ELA ratings in EMIS or EAS for the 2023-2024 school year. When you review the ratings for your children in KReady, you might notice missing scores. We recommend you have a local process for communicating with teachers and families about why a child might have one or more missing scores. There are no reason codes to report for missing scores as in previous years.

Winter 2023 Assessment Window
The winter assessment window is optional and begins November 15. The data collection in the KReady system will open for enrollment on December 2.

Teacher Training
Additional ELA training opportunities through December have been added. Check out the Training section on the ELA for Teachers Webpage. Please reach out to ELAHelp@education.ohio.gov to request an additional training date.

New Resource for Teachers using KReady
We recently published a new resource, KReady Directions for the ELA, on the ELA for Teachers Webpage. This document is a brief step-by-step guide on logging in to the system, finding professional development and resources, and accessing a data collection to assign ELA ratings.

2023-2024 Step Up to Quality Comprehensive Assessment Requirement
For the 2023-2024 school year, programs that choose to use Ohio’s Early Learning Assessment as their comprehensive assessment to meet SUTQ requirements, who do not opt in to the ELA Pilot, must assess all preschool-age children using 28 progressions, not including the fine arts section, a minimum of two times during the year following a program determined schedule.

Join Us for ELA/KReady Open Office Hours
