FCC Seeks Comments on E-Rate’s Managed Internal Broadband Services (MIBS)

Good afternoon, E-Rate Community.

I mentioned in an email last week that the FCC seeks comments on the proposed funding year (FY)2026 Eligible Services List (ESL). In addition to asking about eligible software and other remote configuration services, they are also seeking comments on whether changes should be made regarding managed internal broadband services (MIBS). Two of the questions being asked:

  • Are there any substantial benefits for funding MIBS? If so, what are the benefits?
  • Are there any cost savings and efficiencies for funding MIBS? If so, what are the cost savings?

To help gather the requested information, I’ve created a survey located at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5PMKM8D

If you currently receive E-Rate funding for MIBS service, I ask that you please complete the survey by Monday at 12:00 PM. I apologize for the short turnaround time to respond, but the FCC is requesting initial comments by October 15th.

If you are a consultant filing on behalf of applicants receiving MIBS, or a service provider providing MIBS services to applicants, please share the survey link with your applicants.

Thank you in advance for your help. If you have questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Lorrie
